Beech - European Beech machines well and is used for its paintability, stainability, and overall look. This closed-grain specie is generally close in color and tone to Red Alder. Beech can have either a rather plain pink or brown hue, a minute ray fleck pattern, or occasionally some pretty color from the heartwood. Since it is so similar to Alder, these two species can be used interchangeably.
Red Alder - Similar in color and tone to European Beech, Red Alder tends to be a light tan to reddish brown, with a generally straight, fine, and uniform texture. It provides a great machine finish, is paintable, stainable, and has an overall pleasant look. Since it is so similar to European Beech, these two species can be used interchangeably.
Basswood, Red Oak, Maple, White Oak, Cherry, and Mahogany are also available.

Exterior Species: Made-to-Order Wood Shutters
Alaskan Yellow Cedar - Alaskan Yellow Cedar is from the West Coast of British Columbia. Like all Cedars, it is known for its resistance to decay and durability against most insects. It is commonly used in marine applications, such as pilings, boat hulls, oars, and paddles, as well as in exterior applications, including decking, stairs, siding, and trim. This is a unique Cedar – having a distinctly lighter “yellow” look. Yellow Cedar is a harder, stronger, and denser softwood, whose uniform growth rings improve machinability and account for the lack of visual grain. The aroma and physical properties of Alaskan Yellow Cedar make it a true Cedar.
The natural preservative oils present in Cedars that help make them resistant to rot and insects can react adversely with some metal fasteners, resulting in stains and streaks. To prevent this, Stainless Steel fasteners are highly recommended, while Hot-Dipped Galvanized fasteners are also acceptable.
Eastern White Pine
& Ponderosa Pine - These relatively strong and straight pines are used in our wood shutters. These straight grain, medium texture pines have great paintability and are the best species of pine for exterior shutters.
Millennium - This proprietary Millennium Wood Composite is exterior-grade wood composite that resists moisture, rot and termites. It is dimensionally stable and paints without grain raise. These panels will not check, split, or crack.
